56 hectare of Natural forests along the lower reaches of the Nanaimo river develop trail network provides walker cyclists and nature lovers room to explore in the river offers swimmers a great place for a dip and relax on the riverbank. This off the beaten path spot is less than 5 minutes drive from our Airbnb. Go straight up Eglington ave and turn left at the stop sign. Follow the wandering road past Klein’s amazing nursery over the wooden bridge and down past some amazing farm lands. You will see the sign on your right hand side.

Fresh water swimming. Sigh. Worthy of a drive.

The Land Conservancy of Canada concluded the acquisition of this 56 hectare property in 2000 at which time the RDN entered into a long-term lease to manage the lands as regional park and conservation area. In 2016, the property was transferred to The Nature Trust of British Columbia. The Regional District of Nanaimo continues to manage the park under the 99-year lease. The park is one of the few remaining natural forests along the lower reaches of the Nanaimo River and a good example of mature coastal Douglasfir ecosystem. A developed trail network provides walkers, cyclists, swimmers and nature lovers with lots of room to recreate in the woods and along the river; the south eastern portions of the park are dedicated to wildlife habitat.

Nicely maintained trail follows along the river for most of the way, departing into a research forest for part of the loop. Nice views and a popular swimming hole in the summer.
