7 miles away, 13 min Runs 26 miles from Wassaic, through Millerton to just above Copake Falls. A leveled paved trail, great for biking, skating, running or just strolling across gorgeous woods & fields, along the foot of the Taconic Mountains.

a great way to see the area. It is a paved former railroad bed. There are no noticeable hills and very few places where the trail crosses roads (always watch out at these junctions though, because the cars don’t always see you). It is ideal for bicycling with family or for walking. You have two choices. You can go 7 miles south into Millerton; the Rail Trail heads south for 10.7 miles and ends at the Wassaic trail station. Or you can go north 3 miles to Under Mountain Road. From there the trail heads north for 4 miles and ends just north of Copake Falls.

We love taking our kids for bike rides and easy strolls along the paved paths of the Rail Trail. There are several entrances, but my favorite is the main entrance in Millerton, across from Harney Teas.

A joy to bike, skate or walk: Dutchess County to Chatham in Columbia County. As of 2012, approximately 15 miles were complete, including 10.7 miles from Wassaic to Millerton (Dutchess County), and 4 miles from Undermountain Road to Copake Falls (Columbia County). It is open year round from dawn to dusk. Dogs are allowed.
