The Segesta Archaeological Park is what remains of the ancient city today, founded by Trojan refugees in the 9th century BC. For a long time it had a heated territorial rivalry with Selinunte - which itself has a majestic archaeological park - and Syracuse. The park features two main landmarks: the Doric temple and the splendid ancient theater, located on the top of the hill. The first one, dates back to the 5th century BC and is located outside the city walls; the theater, still in use today, uses the panorama of the valley as a backdrop to stage suggestive shows. The full ticket costs 10€, including the shuttle to reach the theater.

Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymians, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. It is located in the northwestern part of Sicily (it needs about 30’ driving) near the modern commune of Calatafimi-Segesta in the province of Trapani.

Segesta, antique city founded by the Elimi, with its temples in the doric style, and its theater partly carved into the rocky hill. The archaeologic parc of Segesta hosts a theater and music festival during the summer.

Visiting the ancient Greek ruins at Segesta is a must-do in Sicily. Segesta is found on top of a Monte Barbaro in the Trapani province. These ruins include an incredibly well-preserved Doric temple – which is the main attraction here. The ruins are believed to have been built in the 420s BC. This is a truly fantastic site for history lovers.
