Olowalu reef is the 'Mother Reef' that supplies 3 islands with coral spores to populate the reef population. This is the largest reef on Maui. You can swim, kayak, or SUP over the reef and see tropical fish, a sea turtle cleaning station, and a shark nursery (not the biting kind). Park at the lot near mile marker 14. Paddle out far from shore for the best viewing - this reef is located on a wind and wave-protected area, but there are no lifeguard stations so only swim out to the outer reef if you're a decent swimmer.

This beautiful beach is about four miles south of Lahaina. It's great for sunbathing and surfing. But there are no bathrooms or showers and make sure you lock your car.

Olowalu (Mile Marker 14) is a great snorkeling spot but requires a swim through shallow water to the best part of the reef system that is about 100 yds. offshore.
