The Guanabara Palace began to be built in 1853 by merchant José Machado Coelho, in a property known as Chácara do Rozo de Domingos Francisco de Araújo Rozo, which was the most beautiful country house on the street called Rua Guanabara (now Rua Pinheiro Machado) and that was private residence until 1860.
