Centro Ecológico Akumal is a non-governmental organization that focuses on sustainability-related issues and improving ecosystem management in and around Akumal. It was formed in 1993 to provide environmental initiatives for the protection of Akumal’s coastal and marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Since then, they have concentrated their efforts into three main areas—research, education and outreach—all three themes are woven through our various programs and projects.
