On the site of the mansion of the Gersei Pethő family, the construction of the castle was started by Kristof Festetics in 1745. It gained its final - neo-baroque - form in the 1880s.

Festetics Castle in Keszthely, today a museum and event center, is the third largest but most visited castle in Hungary. Its construction was started by Kristóf Festetics in 1745. The one-storey baroque mansion dating to the 18th and 19th centuries was rebuilt and expanded several times. The park of Festetics Castle is a nature reserve.
