Ever wonder what the inside of an extinct volcano looks like? Well, within walking range (much easier by car) on the route from Origo Mare toward Lajares is Calderon Hondo, which towers above the town and is a fairly easy climb for those who like adventure. Park up and walk up from the edge of town (parking can be an issue so be prepared to park and walk) and ascend the volcano right to the top, where we get a view down into the caldera (the heart of the volcano). And when you're done, you're right next to Lajares which is a perfect spot for a pit-stop and a bite to eat.

Calderon Hondo is a volcano in Lajares, the local mountain. Definitely worth a trip. A full hike takes about an hour and can be done with normal sneakers. The view is spectacular and you have the chance to see a real crater.

Very nice place and worth to climb in. You can see all northern island from there and huge volcano crater. Trip is about 5 km long so don't forget to take some water with You.

Calderón Hondo is part of a series of aligned volcanoes that formed about 50,000 years ago. This is one of the best preserved and you can climb to its reddish summit – 278 meters above sea level – in less than 45 minutes, following an easy path. From the top you can admire the beautiful crater, the other volcanoes and almost the entire north of the island of Fuerteventura. In addition, some nice squirrels that live in the area will come to ask you for food.
