about a 30 minute drive, great place for hiking in the summer and skiing/snowboarding in the winter.
A great way to see Alaska without getting out of your car. Drive to the top to see the Independence mine.
This is the premier draw to the Mat-Su Valley. Summertime: hiking, berry picking, exploring, and even swimming if you’re really adventurous. Wintertime: snowshoeing, skiing, sledding, snow-machining (snowmobiling if you’re from the lower 48)
Breathtaking views, great day trip with 1.5 hour drive North of Anchorage. Hike, explore Independence Mine and take in some of Alaska's best scenery.

Take your time to hike one of the many trails into the mountains. See the old Hatcher Pass Mine with renovated historic buildings and trails all around. Pick some blueberries alongside locals (and bears) at the end of Summer (end of July/August).
