good hiking trail, bring water and use the bathroom no facilities, picnic table at the top so pack a lunch!
This is a great hike with amazing views of the Valley Isle if you get up there on a clear day. Go early to beat the heat and the crowds. Tip: Drive all the way up the road to the top parking lot. You don't want to park in the lower lot and take the long walk up!!
A challenging but rewarding trail, Waihe’e Ridge Trail goes up and back down. It can be very muddy so wear solid shoes. Best conditions will be on a sunny day. Near the top, there are spectacular views of the north shore, Haleakala, and central Maui. Lock your car and stow valuables.
This hike is an intermediate hike, good inclines, beautiful scenery throughout. One of my favorites!

“ ʻĀhihi-Kīnaʻu is south of my favorite beach, " Big Beach" or in Hawaiian - "Oneloa." Established in 1973, ʻĀhihi-Kīnaʻu Natural Area Reserve includes a coastal lava field and surrounding waters on the southwest coast of the island of Maui, Hawaii. It consists of 1,238 acres on land and 807 acres ocean along 3 miles of Maui's southwestern coastline. Often there is a volunteer docent there to answer questions. It is a wonderful area to snorkel. Much of the area is protected, but there is room for you.”
