In between the thunderstorms, the Vilnius weather has been hot, humid and hazy, making a dip in the water all the more appealing. Vilnius has three beaches on the river Neris to speak of. The closest to the city is in Žirmūnai, on the right bank, with the Valakampiai beach a little bit further along on the left bank. Both are well appointed when it comes to facilities, but quickly get crowded when the weather gets hot. If that is the case, it’s worth just staying on the Valakampiai bus for a couple more stops, to get to the “second” Valakampiai beach (that’s the name on the bus stop – “2-asis Valakupių paplūdimys”). This beach is not only in a more pristine setting, in the sense that you don’t see the Žirmūnai tower blocks peeking out from behind the riverbank forest, but also gets less visitors and is smaller in scale than the other two. It still has a great playground, picnic benches, changing booths, a nice grassy slope and ample parking, so it is not lacking facilities altogether, and is likely to offer a more pleasant dip in the river than its more crowded rivals. To get there, get the 15 bus from the Antakalnis transport node, which serves several of the main lines from the centre, including trolleybuses 2 and 4, or bike along the left bank for about 25 minutes.

The most secluded beach from the city. Natural oasis, BBQ place, great rest, beach volleyball. •Самый уединенный пляж от города. Природный оазис, место для барбекю, отличный отдых, пляжный волейбол.
