This is the site of the biggest explosion in World War II when 4,000 tons of high explosive bombs stored underground in old plaster works in Fauld near to Tutbury exploded @ 11am on the 27th November 1944, leaving a crater 400 feet deep and covering an area of 12 acres. The explosion was felt and heard in London and recorded in Geneva as an earthquake. The host will supply maps of walks to discover this area.
