Die Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer ist der zentrale Erinnerungsort an die deutsche Teilung, gelegen im Zentrum der Hauptstadt. Am historischen Ort in der Bernauer Straße erstreckt sie sich auf 1,4 km Länge über den ehemaligen Grenzstreifen. Auf dem Areal der Gedenkstätte befindet sich das letzte Stück der Berliner Mauer, das in seiner Tiefenstaffelung erhalten geblieben ist und einen Eindruck vom Aufbau der Grenzanlagen zum Ende der 1980er Jahre vermittelt. Anhand der weiteren Reste und Spuren der Grenzsperren sowie der dramatischen Ereignisse an diesem Ort wird exemplarisch die Geschichte der Teilung nachvollziehbar.

The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors.

The Berlin wall is such a fascinating part of modern history. So if you want to know more visit the museum or simply take a walk along the places where the Iron Curtain split Berlin into West and East. Info signs along the way explain more and a double row of cobble stones marks the original leap of the Wall. The entire Berlin Mauer walk is 17 km long, but you can choose to jump in any place you want;-)

You can still find pieces of the Berlin Wall, along the strip of land where it was located until 1989. There is also a guided path to learn more about its history.
