Ready to take an Urban Hike? San Antonio has a sprawling trail system! The Mission trails are directly connected to the Riverwalk. Park at the Blue Star Trailhead and take a left into downtown or a right into the paved but scenic and natural trails. You’ll get views of the natural river and wild landscape, as well as interesting architectural designs. Walking and Biking are allowed. Try renting a bike and going for a ride! Stay aware of your surroundings, and if you bike remember to call out to pedestrians. Every few miles along the trail is a Mission Park, with historical buildings and a glimpse into Texas’ past. These usually have restrooms and water fountains. The trails go on for miles! Be prepared with water, snacks, and sun protections. There are few to no streetlights, so pay attention to what time you leave and head back in, or bring a flashlight. Try searching “trailhead” in Google Maps, and see what pops up!

The Mission Trails hike-and-bike system, originally conceived in 1993, provides pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular routes that link San Antonio’s five Spanish colonial missions: San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo), Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada.
