One of the most prestigious historical cafés. The Viennese style grand café is an ideal place to hang out and have some coffee and cake - or even an aperitivo in a very classy but still relaxed atmosphere. Can be combined with a visit to the impressive Synagogue (the second largest in Europe) that…

Historical caffe in Trieste opened in 1914 and famous as a meeting point for the city’s intellectuals and young students. But those are not the only guests: in fact, it housed young irredentists, and functioned as a laboratory for producing fake passports to allow the escape of anti-Austrian…

Italo Svevo & James Joyce (who were friends - Joyce encouraged Italo Svevo in his writing, read his writing & put him in contact with a French editor) wrote and sat at Antico Caffé San Marco.

Kunstmuseum
“It's a very nice museum that was built by the Baron Revoltella, a very generous patron of the city's cultural life. There is the formerly private palace with all the representative rooms to see and also the modern part with an art collection. In summer there is also a rooftop terrace café with amazing views over the city and the Gulf of Trieste”

Café
“This veritable hall of mirrors (specchi) first opened its doors back in 1839 and has more recently been taken over by the chocolatiering Faggiotto from Pordenone (although the matriarch is a local; in fact, she was Miss Trieste 1982). This is the ultimate Piazza Unità front-row seat, whatever the weather, and the coffee has returned to its once former glory.”

Schloss
“The magnificent castle of Emperor Maximilan is one of the major sights. It used to be an Imperial residence until the end of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and the furniture is still original. The park surrounding the castle used to be one of the most magnificent parks, it is not in the best conditions, now, but still nice for a stroll around and the entrance to the park is free. The view from the castle and also the park is really great. In summer you can go there even by boat and the view from the sea is one of my personal highlights.”

“Rustic interiors, exposed beams, chandeliers, a fireplace and a garden for the summer time. Boosting over 1000 reviews all 5 stars.”

Café
“Tommaseo coffee is the oldest coffee in Trieste; it dates back to 1825, taking its name from the Paduan owner Tommaso Marcato, but later it was renamed Tommaseo, in honor of the Dalmatian linguist, writer and patriot.Curiosity: Italo Svevo wrote here and the Triestine Claudio Magris created his own masterpiece "Danube" right at the tables of this café”
