Lovely atmosphere. Good range of food, the tapas was excellent (large portions too). The children's menu is also extensive, including a "build your own pizza" option - after which you may be invited into the kitchen to see it slide into the pizza oven!

NB. This is the Prestwick Lido. Went with a friend and had 5 starters (caesar salad, calamari, lemon hummus, king prawn tempura and parmesan truffle fries). Absolutely outstanding. Then we had pud. Try the skillet with cookie dough, milk chocolate and ice cream or the mini chocolate filled doughnuts. You'll be in heaven!

Fish and chips - recommended by a recent guest, Dave, who said, ”Spectacularly good fish & chips. They do all sorts of fish (e.g. monkfish) and you know how fresh it is as you can see the catch being unloaded from the trawler just yards away. Don't bother with the fish & chip shop just past the Co-Op, Wee Hurrie may be twice the price but it is 10 times as nice! Be aware you need to drive all the way through the Port of Troon, past heavy industry and logging to find this place - keep driving until you run out of road and you'll see it.

Delicious ice cream. I love the Scottish Tablet and Dave (guest) recommended the Lotus Biscoff. They also do a multi-coloured "Unicorn" Ice Cream for young magical creature afficionados!

Recommended by Dave. A great Historic Scotland attraction and very close by. Children can dress up as princesses or knights and "storm" the castle up the hill! There is also a fun question sheet for the children to fill in and learn about the castle history. Good exhibition and excellent cake in the visitor centre. Although not attached, there is also a children's playground just behind the visitor centre and car park. Free parking but watch out - it's easy to miss the turning into Winehouse Yett in Dundonald!

Lovely walks, restaurant, cafe, play park. Saved by the intervention of His Royal Highness, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay in 2007, Dumfries House combines the neoclassical architecture of Robert Adam with the furniture of Thomas Chippendale and leading 18th-century Scottish cabinet makers. Visitors can explore this stunning 2,000 acre estate 365 days a year, with free entry and parking.

Recommended by Dave. This is a fascinating and very reasonably priced (kids free) museum with lots for children of all ages to do - there is a ball pit in the foyer for toddlers, a "Find the Ship's Rats" game for young children (with printed certificate if you find them all) and a computerised sail the yacht around the course attraction for the older ones. The museum itself has a fascinating history of shipbuilding on the Clyde and many of the large shipyard steam powered machine presses, steel shears, hammers and more are on display. Well worth the trip, especially on a wet day.

Recommended by Dave. Walk to the end of Lady Margaret Drive, turn right and to the end of Wilson Avenue. Keep going onto the footpath over the little stream and bear right into the woods. After about 400yds you come to a little clearing with wood carvings and from here you can pick up the fairy trail with arrows leading from one fairy door to the next. There is also a little children's playground a little further along and before you get to the rugby club.
