You'll find the restaurant and bar in a 19th century building. The renovation that took place in 2001 transformed this old barn into a superb spot, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. There are traditional dishes, both regional and from other parts of France. Snacks are available all day. When the weather permits, meals are erved outdoors on a lovely terrace, next to a magnificent 200 year old tree.

Situated to the north-west of Saint Junien, Corot is a Natural Area of Ecological Interest.The site is home to a rare plant species: the Royal Osmonde. This majestic fern can be admired from May to September. It forms large clumps whose stems can reach two meters in height. This natural site bears the name of the famous landscape painter Jean Baptiste Camille Corot (1796-1875). Originally from Paris, Jean Baptiste Camille Corot discovered Limousin thanks to friends living near Limoges. After exploring the surroundings of Limoges, he decided in 1852 to go a little further and discover the site of the valley of Glane. The painter fell under the spell of this enclosed valley.

A man-made lake covering almost 10 square kilometres and at an altitude of 650 metres, Vassiviere was created in 1950 when a dam was constructed and it is now the largest lake in the Limousin region and one of the largest artificial lakes in France.
It is of course the leisure opportunities and scenery around the lake that are of interest to visitors, and the edges of the lake are now quite a developed tourist facility with holiday villages, ports and several beaches with lifeguard supervision to enjoy. The most important of these is Beaumont-du-Lac.

An hour south , Brantome is known locally as the Venice of Perigord. Wooded cliffs loom up behind the beautiful Benedictine abbey and the river Dronne runs around the village in front of a Benedictine Abbey. There is a small weir and a lovely and unusual right-angled stone bridge to add to the beauty of the scene.
Parks and gardens surround much of Brantome, where the traditional Perigord houses are built of the local stone with tiled roofs. Added to this there is a fabulous troglodyte cave with scenes of the Last Judgement carved in the stone and nearby is the Dolmen of Pierre Levée.

It is a very charming place and as you amble through the tranquil setting and the narrow streets of the village it's hard to guess that in the Middle-Ages this was an important local centre for the region. A cluster of unspoiled medieval houses runs along the river and the village is overlooked by the ruins of the castle that stand on a raised hill behind and dates from the 12th century: the castle provides a scenic backdrop for Ségur-le-Château.

Oradour-sur-Glane is a village and historic memorial site 25 minutes North.
Before the second World War Oradour-sur-Glane was a small traditional French village centred around its church. The village gained its importance in French history when it was completely destroyed by the retreating forces of the German SS on the 10th June 1944.
The destruction of the village also included the murder of all its 642 inhabitants (except a very few who managed to escape) and also some others who were just passing through the village.
It is hard to explain the experience of visiting Oradour. At times as you walk along the streets you could almost forget you are in a destroyed village, and expect children
