Entertainment & Activities

This is an old power plant turned into a culture center. It is worthy to check out the impressive lobby, but you also find restaurants and cafes, movie theatre that shows indie movies, small art gallery and a gym with a climbing wall. There are also many events (e.g. every first Saturday of the month the is a local food market) so its a good idea to check what they are offering. The place is only 300 meters away from my apartment.

Well kept park with a cute lake in the middle and some well done planting groups.

The site of an old amusement that bankrupted some time ago is now a green park that on a warm sunny day attracts skaters and young people to hangout in the green grass. On the south end of the park you can still find the main entrance gate that reminds of the glorious past of this park.

Mølleparken which is a relatively big forest-like park where also Aalborg tårnet (Aalborg tower) is located. This is one of my favourite places to go for a run. One can make a nice 5-6 km running from my place to the park and back. For a person wanting to run e.g. 10 km, I recommend to continue to east from the park to Nordens Kridkrav in Hasseris (an old chalk pit that is filled with water) and from there towards north to the fjord and back to my apartment. It's a nice combination of parks, forrest and running by water without too much traffic.

Aalborg havnefront is an old industrial and harbour area that has in the past 15 years transformed into an attractive and modern water front. Its a great place to go for a walk. There are two bridges crossing the fjord which both are accessible for pedestrians so this makes a cool little walk of about 40 minutes where you can see Aalborg from Norresundby side. Beware that its often way more windier by the fjord than rest of the city so dress up something windproof and warm, especially in the winter :)

Arts & Culture

Surprisingly good modern art museum for a city of this size. They have an interesting permanent collection and changing exhibitions that often push the boundaries of art. Being a Finn myself, I love going to this modern art museum because the building and the furniture in the cafe were designed by a Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. So this place reminds me of home.

Essentials

Føtex serves a good variety of groceries but also a limited selection of clothes, electronics, cosmetics and home textiles. Food prices are a bit more expensive than in Rema 1000 which is budget supermarket nearby, but they have a better selection and if you prefer a well organised supermarket then this is the place for you. It also has a bakery where you can buy fresh bread early in the morning. It's open 8-21 every day of the week.

A budget supermarket where you'll find all the basic groceries. By the cashier you'll find two shelves with "spotvarer", special patch of all sorts stuff that's not part of the normal assortment of the store. Open 8-22 everyday.

Shopping

This is the beginning of a shopping street that runs until Boulevarden, turns to Nytorv and continues to your right as Bispensgade. By the shopping streets you will find local and international fashion stores, two department stores (Magasin and Salling), book stores, kitchen and design stores and much more.

Food Scene

My favourite cafe because of the laid back decor, big pots of teas (great selection of tea, which is not very normal in this land of coffee drinkers) and good pastry. They also have a good list of little savoury things like salads and sandwiches.

Everything Else

Salling Rooftop is a cafe and terrace on top of the building in two levels with a really good 360 degree view over the city and fjord. On the first level there is a decent, although a bit pricy cafe, but it's not necessary to buy anything. Remember to head off to the second platform that's even higher than the cafe. The rooftop is inside the department store Salling, so just head inside and find the signs leading to the rooftop.
