These are tavernas and restaurants we like to eat at in the area. Note that we are pescatarians--fish and veggies--so our recommendations are skewed that way! But all our recommendations also have great options for meat lovers.
Alaloum has terrific food--great salads, wonderful specials, friendly service. A very pleasant spot to sit, inside or out. On weekends a table of musicians provides live music.

Fish taverna in Nafplio near the water, a relaxing location with plenty of people watching and nice atmosphere, good service, and excellent food. Try the beat salad, the skordalia, and the grilled tsipoura fish.
This is a well known, established taverna that we recently "rediscovered;" it's a nice change from the more crowded places further into the center of town.

Good food, try a selection of small plates: fava, imam bayldi, tzadziki are all very good.

A lovely setting with panoramic views of the area, including Palamidi. Not a lot of vegetarian options but there are some tasty ones--try the red peppers stuffed with feta, boiled greens and salads; also fried zuccini balls. Better known for their meats, which are reportedly very good. Also has a good playground for children, a plus for the many families that frequent it. A short drive from our place, just at start of road to Tripoli.

The owner is always there and will greet you personally, maybe come by your table to check on you or share a facinating story about his life--his wife cooks, and this is a very welcoming personal environment. we love walking along the the path under our house by the water into Kiveri to sit at Katsiris taverna.
