Hikes Right Around Juniper Ave.

The Flagstaff Trails Map has all these trails. West on Juniper as you go out the door. Right on Mesa to its end, and then on on a social trail that at its simplest, goes about a mile out and a mile in. I can walk you on a different route! Buffalo Park is a Flagstaff gem. It is about a 2 mile drive to its gates, or you can walk or drive 1/2 mi. to the east end of Juniper, and get on the Flagstaff Urban Trail there, up to Buff. Collectively that is a nice 3 mile walk with some good gain. And it is lovely, open prairie and woodland. McMillan Mesa: if you walk up the urban trail from near the end of Juniper, you can go right at the water tanks and cross a bridge over Cedar, and on out into McMillan Mesa. The views of the region and the Peaks are fabulous. If you're walking downtown, make your way to Cedar and Beaver, mostly on Sunset, then cutting over to Beaver before the light. Head downhill on Beaver to Columbus, then go left for half a block and turn right onto S. Leroux. Take this quiet residential route downtown!
Oak Creek is a gem in the region, as a lush canyon with a perennial creek, carved through beautiful layers of limestone and sandstones. There are many great hikes, long or short, and beautiful creekside settings to just savor. Great places for lunch or ice cream on a hot day. In July, blackberries ripen along the creek...great treat.
