The Spot is a great beach club house attracting a lot of active people who love surfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddling, skate or long boarding. They also have a very nice food selection and good coffee. Some of their food is vegetarian and can be made vegan friendly.

A great little park/animal garden with little "dwarf" forest for little kids. If you have small children this is a nice place, walking distance from the house to visit. There is also a small coffee place in the back part of it.

Sightseeing

Haarlem is an amazing little town (of some 170 000 people) with beautiful small historic center, great coffee places and food options. You can explore it on foot or on a bike. If you have the time we recommend you start at the Grote Markt and just stroll around the streets in all directions. If you head to the area around the Apple store, you will certainly love the tiny streets with preserved old Dutch houses. And, since the Dutch do not use curtains, you can peek in to see how people really live there.

Parks & Nature

This is a hidden gem just 10 min by bike from our house. The dunes between Haarlem and the beach have amazing walking paths, tree covered areas and also several fresh water lakes. Het Wed is a favorite place for families to take their kids to swim or splash in the water. If you are also into swimming, this is the best place to get your exercise in.

If you feel like taking a stroll in a stunning little estate park with beautiful allies, moss covered paths, just hop on a bike and go to Elswout. It is some 10-15 minutes bike ride from our place and makes for a great spot to walk, talk, take the calm and peace in. Kids will love the deer, sheep, ducks and other animals that freely roam around. You can also visit the "Orangerie" and have a drink or a coffee.

This is also a very nice beach house with really "beachie" feel, nice furniture and acceptable food. It has limited healthy food selection but their coffee is ok and it is at the same level with the beach so it feels very cozy and relaxing. Tends to be full quite early and often has a lot of table reserved so unless you are early birds, it might be a hit an miss.

Luciano's is one of the best ice-cream shops around. It's only 1.5km from the house so you can walk there in 10-15min even after dinner for a nice load of goodness. They usually also have 2 or 3 vegan friendly flavors and all their ice creams have clear description on gluten, lactose, fat etc. They also serve very nice coffee.

A nice coffee/cake/sandwich place, close to a lovely playground for kids, located in an old "asylum house" which looks like a church. It is a close walk from our house and nice for a brunch. You can sit outside or in their "winter garden".

This is a great place if you have a massive sweet tooth. Owned by what we believe is an English lady which looks a lot like Nigella Lawson. Very reach, sugary and ultimately really unhealthy sweets but we will let you judge the impact on your waistline.

Essentials

It doesn't matter whether you are into healthy, organic foods or not, we encourage you to visit this shop owned and run by twins. It has been around for many years, has survived the boom of supermarkets and has a lot of charm. The price tags are sometimes still hand written, if you want some goods you need to climb on a stool and yes, everything is organic. The staff is a mix of rare characters and very sweet beings.

Good sized grocery store with everything you might need. Nice fruits and veg sections, cold press juices and other essentials. We recommend you take a bike as walking back with the bags full might be tiring.
