Topeka's zoo is in Gage Park, as well as a lovely rose garden, a train, and the Helen Hocker Theater, which has shows put on by young people. There is also a great swimming pool and an old fashioned carousel. The Bark Park has two separate areas for large and small dogs, and is popular with dog owners

CW Porubsky Grocery and Meats A pilgrimage to CW Porubsky Grocery and Meats during chili season has been a Topeka tradition since 1947. This friendly, family-operated business is a good place to get a good meal without spending a lot of money. Charles Porubsky opened this family-run business and his son Charlie runs things now. To this day, little changes there. Porubsky’s has the same weathered bar signs and packs the same lunch crowd ranging from everyday workers to the governor. While chili season at Porubsky’s runs from September 1 through April 1, a trip to Topeka’s Little Russia is not complete without also stopping for a legendary hot pickle. Greg Fox learned the restaurant business in Topeka, New York City and Nashville. After returning to his native Topeka, Fox opened RowHouse Restaurant in 2007, where the menu is ever changing. Set over three floors and the outdoor courtyard of a historic house, RowHouse Restaurant is intimate, elegant and cool. It’s the perfect location for parties of two to 12; each dining room is inviting and unique. A recent menu featured featured an appetiser of chilled strawberry soup with orange and pepper whipped cream, followed by an entrée of honey balsamic glazed beef with summer vegetable succotash and sweet tea cream pie for dessert. See the website for a list of Greg’s own favourite restaurants

Pie heaven just might be in Topeka, Kansas, at Bradley's Corner Cafe, where there are never fewer than 20 crimp-crusted beauties on offer at a time: pies of perfectly caramelized summer peaches, bracingly sour apple-cranberry, countless riffs on classic pecan. My favorite, available year-round, is the peanut butter-chocolate pie: Beneath a cloud of meringue lie layers of creamy peanut butter mousse and semisweet chocolate pudding—so thick I marvel that the servers manage to slice it. Must have their breakfast also!

This area is known for its big, Victorian-style homes and circular intersections. Potwin is a community favorite, especially at Christmastime, when neighbors join forces to decorate the homes and intersections with lights and themed décor. It's common to hear carols being sung or even to run into Santa himself during a tour through the neighborhood to see the lights during the holidays. Halloween and Fourth of July also are popular holidays to celebrate in Potwin with decorations, parades and activities

Fat Back Brewery started as a home brewing group with the name in homage to the founder's years of playing Rugby. Putting together recipes and perfecting brewing techniques to make great beer became a passion of the group. This brewery had to not only make excellent beer but support the arts and the community as a whole. In 2014 with the help of NOTO the group started putting things in action to make this a reality.
