A justly famous castle- over restored in the 19th century and crowded in the summer but worth seeing all the same. Go early in the morning to avoid some of the crowds. 40 mins from us.

Packed in summer but the second most visited place in all of France. Medieval walled city located in the center of Carcassonne On the 14th of July, Bastille day there is an amazing firework display done over the ramparts. We tend to park on the outskirts of the city and then bike in and picnic in a field to avoid some of the traffic.

A tough climb at times but a fabulous view. Takes about an hour and a half to walk up and do ask us for the best way to climb up. We recommend bringing a picnic and a bathing suit for after your climb as there is a man made lake at the foot of the mountain where you can swim and picnic. Bugerach is 50 minutes from us.

Wonderful restaurant with outdoor seating. Locally sourced food cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely. Dinner is more tapas style - small plates while lunch a more traditional starter main course and dessert The wine is good too although more expensive than is usual for the area It is a pretty hours drive from us. Good seafood. Unpretentious. Family style long wooden tables. Beautiful view out over the salt flats. Do make sure to make a reservation. Ideally plan a day out at the beach of Gruisson with lunch or dinner here. It is 1.5 hour drive from our place but worth it.

Wonderful and very friendly butcher. Sells very tasty "boudin noir" - blood sausage on a Tuesday evening. We usually get there for 6 when it just comes out still warm and take it out and eat it at one of the cafes on the main square with a glass of wine or a beer.
