Food Scene

This restaurant has earned its stellar reputation for refined flavours and a dining experience that punctuates a celebration. While the few chefs that have helmed its kitchen shaped the personality of the place, today, Chef Matthias Tretbar simply accentuates it with his incomplex flavours brought on by freshness and quality of ingredients.

Sigi’s beach bar has a cocktail menu that can match the island’s balmy and breezy evenings. Their tall drinks such as Sex by The Beach, classic Mojito and everything else that should be served in a martini glass are as colourful as they are intoxicating. The charming thing about the food here is, some of the herbs are plucked straight out of their back garden. Sigi’s herbs and spice garden was setup by the good people of Tropical Spice Garden in Teluk Bahang and it certainly gives the menu a fresh feel.

Well known for its lush green surroundings, this restaurant has used a garden theme to enhance its ambience. There are long stemmed plants gently swaying in the breeze and a long, elaborate water feature running at least through half of the al fresco eating area. By the time it’s nightfall, glowing oil lamps cast soft shadows that result in a romantic feel. From the entrance, however, you’d never be able to tell just how large and sprawling its premises really is. Best part is, they have an extensive menu to match it all. Ranging from Western, pseudo Mediterranean to Asian, there’s sure to be something there to please even the fussiest palate or appetite. There are steaks of Australian beef to wagyu, fish pieces that are either grilled or fried, chicken that are either roasted or fried and seafood cooked in almost every possible fashion you can think of. Then there are Asian dishes such as sizzling Mongolian beef and fried rice. Their baked fish topped with a thick spicy sauce and sealed with melted cheese comes with young potatoes and vegetables. It’s a surprisingly pleasing combination plucking from Mediterranean and Asian flavours. While that may be a little risqué, their chicken chop of traditional flour batter is conventional enough and comes with fries and blanched vegetables. The price for main dishes starts from around RM24++ and a glass of decent house wine at RM16++. In the evening, this place suits a romantic occasion with a reasonably relaxed ambience amid lovely landscaping.

Parks & Nature

the name origin for Batu Feringgi is contentious until today, one may argue along the same line when it comes to Pantai Miami or Miami Beach. While it is relatively undocumented, it is quite easy to grasp the reason behind its name. For many years, the beach was probably unknown and yes, unnamed. Hence, to spice up the scene for this short stretch of sandy beach, the name of Miami Beach was conceived by taking cue of the actual world-famous beach in Florida, which needs no introduction whatsoever. In recent days, a high-end gated housing development was built across the main road and it was aptly named Miami Bay to further entrench the name, while several high-rise condominiums collectively known as Miami Green were stacked nearby. Truth be told, the area is often associated with neighbouring Batu Feringgi for commercial reasons and for the sake of simplicity, although Pantai Miami is clearly segregated by rocky promontories on boths ends that separate it from the former. There is no fashionable cafés or outlets here, only just a few basic food stalls selling snacks and such. There is actually one hotel here, Hydro Majestic Hotel, across the road and often fancies itself as one of hotels on Batu Feringgi beach. As the beach is relatively unknown, one can find a decent seclusion away from the crowd here. The beach is decidedly good with ample sandy sands and colossal boulder rock formations at one end. Furthermore, as the beach is not fronting any resort, it is much easier to park by the roadside and head straight down to the water. However unflattering its name might be, Pantai Miami is a perfect place to watch the ocean and there are plenty of spots to call you own.
