LELAND-"FISHTOWN" This small town is worth the short drive. Make it an even better trip by stopping by one (or three) of the many wineries on the way.  Make sure to stop at the small shops along the fishing dock. Eat one of the famous sandwiches from the Village Cheese Shanty. If you are in luck, watch the salmon jumping the damn. Search for Petoskey stones at Vans Beach. Make it a full day and catch a ferry to the Manitou Islands.

Sightseeing

This is a must see for individuals of all ages.  Beware, the famous sand dune climb at the #9 outlook is no joke. It really can take over two hours to climb back to the top. You don’t want to be the person that needs to call in a rescue team.  Multiple hiking trails all along the coast.  We recommend the Empire Bluff Trail. Short (marked) hike through the woods leading to an awesome look out over Lake Michigan. Is it winter time? Grab some snow shoes and enjoy the year round views. The Sleeping Bear Dunes now hosts summer star gazing parties. (Amazing experience!)  Call or check their website for dates.
