Outdoor Adventure and Mountain Biking

Go to this park if you love mountain biking. It is one of our favorite places to ride. They have short and long trails.
It is a beautiful park. Has a playground, picnic shelter, and bathrooms. It is $5 for day use. Perfect place for a ride on your mountain bike. Not good for regular riding. You can hike as well.

This is a beloved location to hike along the Chattahoochee. No bathrooms or shelters so plan accordingly. Call me to find out how to get to the bamboo forest. It can be complicated.

Cascade Nature Preserve! If you don't make it out to Stone Mountain then don't worry. Cascade Nature Preserve has the same plutons or granite outcroppings just less epic. Our children call these precious rocks grandpa and grandma rocks. They have been going to this place since birth. They know their way around and they know you will not take their grandparents for granite. Little rock joke! The trails have poor signage but if you want a quick adventure then this is the place to go. Longest hike is 30 minutes and this includes short break at the top. If you feel or are lost then don't panic. Pull out your phone to find Utoy Creek or just find a stream and follow it back to the parking lot. Read about the Battle of Utoy Creek before you head out. Follow the sound of traffic and it will lead you back to the beginning. or just ask someone alone the way. Remember to go down to return to the parking lot. You are surrounded by homes not lost in a vast wilderness. You can support local artisans who set up booths at the entrance. Remember that if you walk outside the fence then you are no longer in the preserve. It is 6.9 miles or approx 16 minutes drive. High use on weekends but most people just gather along waterfall. Hiking trails usually empty bc most people don’t know how to hike this beautiful preserve. As a female, I have hiked there alone for years and I have never in my life felt afraid or threatened. People are courteous and kind. As always, be vigilant when you hike alone and let someone know where you have gone and when you will return. Do not leave any valuables visible in the car, not even charging wires. This preserve is located in a lovely residential community and it is still inside the city limits. No bathrooms but restaurants and grocery stores nearby. If you feel more adventurous then you can find Atlanta Beltline through the Lionel Hampton Trail. The Lionel Hampton Trail has significant history. There is an older black gentleman who lives right past the playground, next to the stone house. If you see him outside then say hello and ask about the history of the trail. The history goes back to a Jim Crow Atlanta.

I highly recommend this paved trail that winds around a prominent historic black neighborhood. We adventured to this place on bikes a lot when our children were much younger. They loved to ride down big hills and roll their balance bikes over the bridge. Bring a first aid kit if you have little ones who tend to fall. You will find homes, shade along the way but also sun exposure. You might find deer as well. Bring your bike, best walking shoes, water and a phone and maybe an Atlanta history book. There is a playground at the time and a fun metal bridge along the way. This trail leads you to the southwest Beltline where you can bike to Wildheaven for a beer and Hop City for a meal. Use your GPS or go to the Atlanta Beltine website to learn how these amazing trails connect.

Food scene

The is place is lively and within walking distance. Like all breakfast spots, it tends to be very busy on weekends. If you order to go, make sure to ask driver to check that all items are accounted for. They get super busy and forget to double check orders.

All I can say is that this place is the spot for vegans and a curious junk food adventure. Lines are usually crazy but I have seen them calm down over the months. Call to ask about the wait.

A place you can eat and never order anything you don't like. I just love this place. Go have fun! Limited space so get there at 6pm maybe latest 7pm if you don't want to wait for hours. Please like to hangout and take their time. If you get there at the right time then you will be the one hanging out. If not, don't fret! Order a cocktail and have a chat with strangers.

Delicious, $$, loud and fun! They have live nights and other things happening. Best part is that it is less than a mile, the staff and owners are so welcoming and you will have a great time. They do have a dress code but they aren't tough on you if you show up without a tie.
