In the summer, the old road (built in the years 1859-1864), between Seljestad and Røldal, is opened. Instead of taking the new road through the tunnels, one turns off just before the Seljestad tunnel and is rewarded with an unforgettable ride, through a beautiful and dramatic landscape, surrounded by steep mountains and deep gorges. One travels on charming roads up into the mountains, and the view, with Folgefonna in the background, becomes more beautiful and more fantastic for every moment. Along the old road there is a memorial, above the postman G. Turtveit. On his way to ski over the mountains in the winter of 1903, he was surprised by a snow avalanche. He lay deep under the snow for 56 hours, but miraculously managed to dig himself out of the avalanche with his mail horn. He got further down to Seljestad, where he got help from the people who lived here.

In the valley of the waterfalls are the 5 beautiful waterfalls; Tjørnadalsfoss, Strandfoss, Vidfoss, Espelandsfoss and Låtefoss. Låtefossen, with a drop of 165 meters, is considered the "king" among these waterfalls, and has been an internationally famous natural attraction for a couple of hundred years. Many famous people have been here and admired the waterfall. Emperor Wilhelm was one of those who was very fond of this area, and came here many times. Of others, e.g. mentioned, our own King Haakon. The English Prime Minister Gladstone also took the trip here and even got a viewing plateau above the waterfall named after him; the so-called Gladstoneview.

Røldal Stave Church is a cultural treasure from the 13th century. The church is beautifully decorated with murals and carvings. This stave church is the church in Norway, after Nidaros Cathedral, that most pilgrims made a pilgrimage to in the Middle Ages. The reason for the many pilgrims was i.a. that the crucifix of the church was known to have healing powers. Every Christmas Eve (June 23) there is still a pilgrimage to the church. The pilgrimage ends with a midnight mass, and it is on this evening that the crucifix according to legend sweats its healing drops. From mid-May to mid-September, the church is open to visitors every day between 10.00-17.00.
