Our Local Beaches

My Favourite Beaches

There are so many wonderful beaches all within a 20 minute drive from our cottage! Enjoy the natural beauty of sand, sun and water that one would might get from a major tourist destination like Grand Bend or Wassaga... but with only half the tourists! 😀 Many beaches around here fly under the radar, so we decided to put them in a guidebook for your traveling convenience.... see if you can visit them all!
Inverhuron is a one of the most scenic beaches in the area. There is public beach access with a parking lot. The beach itself is sandy, long and great for family swimming! There are also hiking trails and picnic spots inside Inverhuron Provincial Park which is attached to the beach.

Port Elgin Main Beach is a cute family friendly swimming spot right in the heart of the quaint beach town of Port Elgin. You can spend the day at the beach, doing many things other than swimming.... there are playgrounds, volleyball courts, with various restaurants and snack shacks around town. It does get busy here in Summer so we recommend going early.

MacGregor Point Provincial Park is known for hiking and camping, but it also boasts a beautifully natural beach.... And if you're feeling adventurous, you can hike from the road to this beach without actually paying to enter the park. We park at the end of Bruce Saugeen (Towline) Road (also known as Richardson Rd) and walk about 500meters through a wooded trail to access this secluded beach. I've never swam in the water, I think it may be a bit rocky and not sure about slope, but if you're looking for a more private beach experience, this is it!

We can't forget about our little beach just 200 steps from the cottage! We've got a private trail for direct access to the water (through our neighbour's property), but you can also access it from the end of Pauls Pier Dr. It's not the best swimming spot as the shallow waters are pretty rocky with weeds..... but the natural shoreline is the perfect place to relax and catch some rays with a cold beverage! You can also have a small camp fire in our pit provided (with stump seating) while enjoying a front row seat to famous Lake Huron sunsets.

A little further drive (about 26minutes), but worth it if you're looking for a large beautiful beach right in town. Coupled with a cute boardwalk and lighthouse for pictures. The town of Kincardine the largest one would will find within a 30min drive from the cottage, and makes for a wonderful day trip! Beach, restaurants, walk around the marina or to shops. See the Kincardine Summer 2022 Events line up or check out the local market on Saturdays & Mondays. This is busy beach town with great local vibe.

Shhhhhh.... this beach is a bit of a locals secret! It doesn't even have a formal name... we just discovered it two Summers ago while on a drive around town, and quickly became a family favourite! Boasting pure sand and really shallow waters... our kids love it! Head down Concession Rd 10 toward the water, turn right onto Sunset Drive (dirt road) for a couple kms and the beach will come up on your left side. There are a couple parking spots with additional street parking. (*** the Google map showing points for these beach location are a little off. See screenshot I attached here for correct directions... only 9mins from the cottage***)
