Neighborhoods

Locals will argue on the boundaries, but in gereral, Chic's Beach encompasses Shore Drive and the Chesapeake Bay beaches. The beaches are quieter and less crowed than the oceanfront. There's plenty of local restaurants, bar, breweries, and the best places for brunch are along this corridor (Check out Citrus, Bay Local, Simple Eats, or the Rustic Spoon). If you'd like a cold drink with a view, try Chick's Oyster Bar, Buoy 44, or the Porch on Long Creek. Or grab a craft beer at Commonwealth (they also have excellent pizza) or Pleasure House Brewery, both an easy bike ride away.

Funky, cool area near the oceanfront . Tons of murals, amazing restaurants, and artsy vibe. The food at The Pink Dinghy, Commune and Stockpot is delicious and unique or you can grab some local coffee at Three ships or Java Surf. The North End Bag Company sells handmade bags and purses. There is a farmer's market most Saturday mornings behind Croc's (which hosts Drag Yourself to Brunch each Sunday). A much less touristy area than the boardwalk

Sightseeing

Though it is among the busiest state parks in Virginia, you'd never know if once you are there. If you are up for a hike (don't worry, there are no mountains, just some small hills) this is a beautiful park that will make you forget you are only a few miles away from the bustling boardwalk. I love the Osmanthus Trail and the Long Creek Trail. You'll take wooden bridges over cypress swamps, and most is lightly trafficked once you get off the main trail.

The park/natural area is less than two miles from the house and it is a great place to canoe, kayak, or SUP (bring your own boat, not included with room). Launch from the public boat ramp just off Northampton Blvd and enjoy the crystal clear lake. I recommend staying to the right, where you'll eventually cross under a scenic foot bridge. Come back to the main large and keep hugging the right shore, and you may find a huge expanse of lilly pads or a small cove with cypress trees that is straight out of the boat scene in the Little Mermaid
