The tower, Varden, is the highest point on Kirkelandet island, the main island, and is just 600 metres from the house. Varden is in the park area called Kringsjå (name meaning "looking around). From here you can see the sunset and has a 360 degree view over Kristiansund, the surrounding mountains and about 5000 islands north and west of the town. It also gives you a great view over the towns four islands; Kirkelandet (this one), Nordlandet, Frei and Onnlandet, making it easier to orientate yourself in the "city by the sea". Under each window in the tower you can find the names of the islands/mountains in view. The tower is free, always open and also contains great (also free) binoculars.
