the Allerton tour at the NTBG is nothing short of wondrous. The Allerton family bought a valley on the south shore at the turn of the century and turned it into a breathtaking garden. On top of being an incredible tour, the NTGB is worthy of your support as it is a charitable organization that has done untold amounts of good for Kauai's biodiversity and ecosystem and sends breadfruit (grown right on site) to developing nations facing food scarcity.

Hawaii is the only state in the nation that grows coffee, and there's a plantation about 15 minutes outside of Poipu. If you're going to buy bags of coffee, keep it out of your carry on as TSA will have to rifle through your bag to check it. Lion coffee on the Big Island is probably about as good as it gets, but coffee fanatics will love the plantation for the tastings and history.

It is an exquisite monastery that hosts daily Hindu ceremonies to visitors, perched on top of some truly incredible land on the east side. There is a massive Banyan tree here that is perfect for a contemplative meditation session. Up the road is a very unique Rudruksha forest, where big, vibrant blue berries fall from trees and make quite the scene! Just up the road from Wailua falls as well, so make sure to stop there and check out the native Hawaiian village down below.
