Books

The library has always had an interest in preserving local history. The first library in Owen Sound began operating in 1855 and items have been preserved almost since this inaugural date.  Andrew Armitage, the Director of the Library, says that some items still remain from the 1860s.  About 25 years ago, the work began to develop the Local History Section, and it was named after a long time Owen Sound librarian, Ioleen Hawkin. The library is an architectural marvel. From the elevator to the expansive interior stone staircase, and that wonderful library "books" smell. shhhh, this is a library...but it's an adventure.
