Food Scene

The Old Spanish Trail restaurant has been serving the dining needs of Bandera since 1921, making it the oldest continuously operated restaurant in Bandera County. Bandera is known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World” for its western culture and many dude ranches. Dudes, cowboys, and locals all like the O.S.T. for its ranch-house, share-the-tables at-home atmosphere. Several national travel magazines and tour books have featured the O.S.T. as one of the best places to eat in Texas. If you like down-home cooking served by friendly staff you’re in the right place. We take pride in our chicken-fried steak and Tex-Mex food. The salad bar is set in an old West-style wagon.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot BBQ is a veteran owned small business that specializes in Texas style smoked BBQ. Starting out as a food truck and now moving into a brick and mortar environment, they are hoping to only get bigger and better. Their food truck was doing great, they decided to move up to Pipe Creek and see if we could do better. Only the finest quality of meats is used to create our brisket, pulled pork, beef and pork ribs, and sausages. They have all the sides that accompany traditional BBQ establishments, but theirs are all hand made in-house. No pre-packaged stuff for their guests. Their goal is to create a wonderful environment for the people of Bandera, Pipe Creek, and Lakehills to come, visit, relax, eat, and enjoy.

The Bandera General Store building is 108 years old – built in 1907. It has the original wood floors and the original tin tile ceiling. It has been a saddle shop, a feed store, an appliance store (word has it caskets were sold in the basement and during prohibition the cowboys drank beer and played cards on the empty caskets ). The building was also once a movie theater. At one time the projector caught on fire and burned part of the ceiling which is now patched with plywood because the original tin tile ceiling could not be duplicated. The basement is now home to “Arkey’s Silver Dollar Saloon”. It is one of the oldest operating “Honky-Tonks” in Texas. The store housed Bandera’s first movie theatre, The Bantex, and also a saddle shop and western wear store.
