The Balos Beach, which is situated in the north-west side of the island, is one of the most beautiful landscapes, our nature has ever created!
With its crystal clear turquoise waters, the fine white sand and the lagoon of the size of about 5 football fields (the depth of the lagoon varies between 20-50cm), it is a place to spend a fantastic day (or 2) with friends and family!
The access to the beach though is not an easy task.
You can drive till about 1km away from the beach, park and then hike down the cliff, facing a breathtaking panorama of Balos beach and lagoon and Gramvousa island, however for the last 10 kms an SUV would be desired.
Alternatively you can take the ship from Kissamos and off you jump in the water of Balos Beach in about an hour.

Balos Strand
The Balos Beach, which is situated in the north-west side of the island, is one of the most beautiful landscapes, our nature has ever created!
With its crystal clear turquoise waters, the fine white sand and the lagoon of the size of about 5 football fields (the depth of the lagoon varies between 20-50cm), it is a place to spend a fantastic day (or 2) with friends and family!
The access to the beach though is not an easy task.

It has soft golden sand and brilliant clear turquoise water, and is fantastic for bathing, swimming and snorkeling
Gramvousa hosts the remains of the fortress, which was built in the 16th century from the venetians to defend the island from the Ottoman turks.
If you don’t want to walk up the 1500 steps to reach the fortress, you can just sunbath at the beach, dive in the water or grab a lunch at the ship from a daily cruise!

The island located close to the southwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Crete, of which it is administratively a part, in the regional unit of Chania. When the weather is fine it is possible to walk to the island through the shallow water.
Elafonisi island is a protected nature reserve!!.
