Our city 💙

Our city is only 12 km away from us. Situated halfway between the popular cities of Pisa and Florence, this little town is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Tuscany. A walk through the historic old town reveals many beautiful attractions, picturesque alleys and charming squares. The landmarks here are: - The imposing 4 km (and 233m) long city wall, one of the best preserved in Europe, where you can walk, run, cycle or rent a rickshaw. - Torre Guinigi (Torre delle ore) the famous tower with the trees on top. - Piazza dell' Anfiteatro, one of the most beautiful in Italy. Built starting in 1830 by the architect Nottolini, it takes up the ancient layout of the Roman amphitheater. - The Church of San Michele, also called del Foro, stands in the place where the center of ancient Lucca was, where meets two main axes, Via Fillungo and San Paolino, today shopping and socializing streets. - The Church of San Frediano is one of the oldest places of worship in Lucca, founded by the saint whose name it bears. It is striking for the mosaic on the facade (which is very rare for a Romanesque-style church) and for the beautiful baptismal font housed inside. - Piazza Napoleone is the largest square in Lucca. - Il Duomo of Lucca, dedicated to San Martino with asymmetry of the right side of the facade that had to adapt to the already existing bell tower. On the polychrome facade that is inspired by the Cathedral of Pisa there is the statue of San Martino in the act of sharing his cloak with a poor man. But also the surroundings of Lucca are really lovely and invite going on exciting excursions.

The city of Pisa is only 33 km away. The most important attraction here is, of course, the Leaning Tower, located in the beautiful Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), where, in addition to the famous bell tower, there are various other attractions. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, about 55 meters high, is not only a popular photo motif; during a visit you also have the opportunity to climb this architectural wonder. Tip: You can save time and energy with buying an online ticket, because the queue to climb the tower is usually very long. Especially in the high season, tickets can be sold out days in advance! The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Pisa Cathedral, is one of the most beautiful attractions in the city. It is situated in the huge green Piazza dei Miracoli and together with the Leaning Tower and the Baptistery it forms a fantastic ensemble that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The outer appearance of this building is stunning, and the inside of the cathedral is also worth seeing. Here you can marvel at precious marble columns, frescoes, mosaics and altar paintings. You should also see the pulpit by Giovanni Pisano from the early 14th century. Another interesting thing to do in Pisa is a visit to the Baptistery, an imposing building located next to the Cathedral and in the square in front of the Leaning Tower. With a diameter of 33 meters and a height of about 54 meters, this church is the largest baptistery in the world. Already impressive from the outside, a visit to the interior is also interesting. During a tour, you will see the beautiful baptismal font, which Guido Bigareli da Como built in the 13th century. Furthermore, a “John the Baptist Statue” and a picturesque marble pulpit can be admired. Tip: Don’t miss to go up to the upper gallery of the building, wherefrom you will enjoy an amazing view. The Camposanto Monumentale, or Monumental Cemetery, is another very captivating attraction in Pisa. It is located on the edge of Piazza dei Miracoli and can be perfectly combined with a visit to the Leaning Tower. This imposing cemetery was built in 1277 and, according to a legend, the courtyard is filled with sacred soil from Palestine. Inside, you can visit an elongated cloister with round arch arcades. Especially unique here are the frescoes that have been decorating the walls since the 14th century. The Triumph of Death and the World Court of Francesco Traini and Bonamico Buffalmacco are only some of the most important works of art that can still be admired today during a tour of the Monumental Cemetery. In the charming alleys you can find a lot of stores to do some shopping, casual restaurants and cool cafés. Some other places to see: - The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, that is the Cathedral Museum of Pisa. - The Piazza dei Cavalieri (Knights’ Square), is one of the most charming places in the historical center of Pisa. - The Botanical Garden of Pisa, A small oasis of the city. - During a city walk through Pisa, a detour to the banks of the Arno River should not be missedIf you cross the historical bridge Ponte Soferino, you directly end up at the church Santa Maria della Spina, a charming little church from the 13th century. - Also worth visiting are the fantastic beaches of Pisa. The most beautiful part at Marina di Pisa, about 10 kilometers from the city center.

Florence is 80 km away from us (aproximative 1h on the highway). You should not miss: - Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore is located in the heart of the old town, at the Piazza del Duomo, and thanks to its size it cannot be missed. It is the 4th largest church in Europe! - In addition to the imposing cathedral, you can climb the huge dome by Brunelleschi and also the high bell tower by Giotto. Also the adjacent baptistery is open for visitors. Today, Ponte Vecchio is still lined with numerous expensive jewelry stores, noble watchmakers and leather stores. - Piazza della Signoria was built between 1250 and 1400 and has always been the political center of the city. Around the square there are countless interesting attractions: the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi with its beautiful statues and the bronze equestrian statue of Cosimo I de’ Medici are just a few of the best highlights to be admired here. Unique and very worth seeing is also the Neptune Fountain on Piazza della Signoria. Built between 1563-1565 by Bartolomeo Ammannati, it was the first public fountain in the city. - Uffizi Gallery, where you can find a huge art collection with paintings and statues from antiquity to the late baroque, by artists such as Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Botticelli. San Gimignano known as “The City of Towers” is 83 km away from us. It is, above all, the large number of the still well-preserved towers that makes San Gimignano so special and unique in Italy. Since a luxurious life was not yet possible in the Middle Ages, patrician families tried to prove themselves with the height of their towers as status symbols. Today, there are still 15 of the 72 towers inside the old town. The most important is the Great Tower of San Gimignano. The so-called 54-meter high Torre Grossa can even be climbed and all those who manage the approximately 220 steps are rewarded with one of the best viewpoints in the city. One of the most important monuments of San Gimignano is  Piazza della Cisterna (the Cistern Square). It owes its name to the underground cisterns that were built as early as 1287. Particularly beautiful here are the ancient historic town houses, which are home to many cozy cafés, ice cream parlors and small stores nowadays. The highlight and probably one of the most popular photo spots on this triangular square is the beautiful medieval stone fountain. Tip: Every Thursday, the big weekly market of San Gimignano takes place at Piezza della Cisterna. This market starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 13:00 p.m. Another attraction in San Gimignano is Piazza del Duomo with the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which is just near the famous Piazza della Cisterna. The car-free center of San Gimignano is not too big and can therefore be explored comfortably on a city walk. Surrounded by a well-preserved city wall, 5 gates provide access to the old town. Small delicatessen stores with regional delicacies, cozy cafés, wine bars and restaurants invite to take a break. In between you will discover small galleries and also the San Gimignano Museum is worth a visit. Another fascinating attraction in San Gimignano are the Montestaffoli ruins in the Parco della Rocca. This is a public park in the west of the town, situated on a hill. Don’t miss to check out the Vista Panoramica viewpoint, wherefrom you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city towers on one side and a fantastic view of the fabulous Tuscan countryside and vineyards on the other.
