Windmill is by far the best bakery in town (and we like to visit often!). They have a range of sweet treats, breads, pies and sandwiches. They have both individual servings and take-home options. Try and go before 2-3 pm as their products sell out quickly! They are closed on Sundays during the winter.

Slice of Muskoka (previously Soul Sistas) is a great local cafe that focuses on healthfoods. It's a great spot if you are looking for healthy homemade style food and also has a variety of vegetarian options. They also have a cute little patio to the side.

Marigold is a local East Indian, Indo-Chinese, and Thai fusion restaurant. Their food is full of flavour and has an authentic homemade vibe. There are great meat and vegetarian options available. Don't forget to order rice separately :)

They serve some basic appetizers in-house and in the summer months, there are a number of food trucks in the area. In our experience, they are pretty open to guests bringing a food truck burritto, burger, etc. to eat with their drinks.

If you’re looking for some meat to grill during the summer months, Big Daddy’s is a great local option. We do note that the price point is on the higher end, so you should expect to pay more than you would at a grocery store.

On The Docks Pub serves typical pub style food. While the food is fairly standard, it’s the location that makes this spot so popular being situated right on the water front in downtown Huntsville.

Gangnam Korea is a great place to stop if you’re looking for a quick lunch or dinner. The food is quick, fresh and tasty. Our favourite is the chicken katsu!

Arrowhead Provincial Park is a quick 20 minute drive from the Blackbird and is a perfect place for a quick hike, biking, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. They also have snow shoeing and skating events in the winter (check ontarioparks.com for more details on the skating events).
We recommend registering prior to your visit on ontarioparks.com as the park does get busy and once at capacity no further admissions are permitted.
In the summer months, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and bicycles can be rented from the Visitor Centre.
Equipment can also be rented at Algonquin Outfitters.

Bracebridge Resource Management Area is a hiking/walking trail area. The trails are easy and friendly for all ages. The Blackbird is located approximately 30 mins from the trails and will be passed when driving to the Blackbird. We often stop here for a walk just before arriving.

We find it best to park at Avery Beach Park at 2 Yonge St N, Huntsville as Avery Beach Park leads directly to Hunters Bay Trail and this provides a longer trail walk.

Public Water Access
Public water access in the Vernon Shores neighbourhood.
13 East Court is the location of the Town of Huntsville public water access in the Vernon Shores neighbourhood. The entrance is a little hidden but we’ve included photos of the entrance here which we hope helps. Once you enter the driveway you will see the Town of Huntsville signs posed there (shown I our photos here). Parking is a available for a few cars and the dock can be used to swim or launch a canoe, kayak or paddle board. It’s also a great spot to walk to and enjoy the morning sunrise!
