If you are visiting Skopje for the first time and have a free day, use it to visit Canyon Matka which is on the other side of the city but very well worth the trip. It offers excellent views and a nature getaway, especially in the summer months when the temperatures there are a few degrees lower than in the city.

Another beautiful nature sight is Vodno Mountain, if you feel like hiking and having a coffee on the top of the mountain with the breathtaking view of Skopje and Shara Mountain, this is the great choice you shouldn't skip. You could also take the gondola from Sredno Vodno to the top (the gondola isn't running on Mondays).

Verkehrsmittel
Taxis are the most convenient way to get around.
Taxis are inexpensive, and will get you in the center of the city in about 10 minutes, at a cost of about 2 euros. Most monuments are in the central city area, regular tourist tours are organized daily, visit them by foot or bike, or simply enjoy the local cuisine and scenography in one of the restaurants located by the Vardar River.
Buses are another alternative, there are several bus lines that stop at a bus stop which is in a 5 minute walking distance.
Walk around the neighborhood and explore it, Capitol Mall, Lisa Center and Biser Mall are at a 10-15 minute leisure walking distance.
