Cropover (Carnival)

Crop Over the premier celebration of Barbados is a tradition and a celebration that recalls the island’s colonial past when sugar cane was the king. Crop Over highlights the culture and history of Barbados as well as the artistic talents of the Bajans. Crop Over Festival spreads out over a 12-week period from the month of May through to August. Whist this is not the official start of the festival there are loads of pre-carnival events that run until Grand Kadooment in August. Official Crop Over season is July-August. The main celebrations for Crop Over occur during the first weekend of August beginning on 27th July 2022 and running until Tuesday 2nd August, 2022. The biggest day of carnival takes place on Grand Kadooment Day which in 2022 is Monday 1st August, 2022.

Effective Wednesday, May 25, 2022, fully-vaccinated travellers to Barbados will no longer have to take a COVID-19 test to enter the country. Masks is mandatory indoors and on public transportation. Outdoors, masks are optional. Unvaccinated travelers still require a NEGATIVE pre-flight test within 3 days prior to arrival here on the island. The Big Crop Over Weekend is the last weekend that leads up to Grand Kadooment Day. This is when the biggest and most popular events take place. The finale of Crop Over are said to be the most exciting of the year as the local Bajans say: “Crop Over it sweet fuh days!” *Here is an estimated 2022 schedule of carnival dates. Friday, 29th July 2022: Straight after the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals is when the Foreday Morning Jump Up kicks off and lasts well into the early hours of Saturday morning. This an event filled with lots of revelry. This is followed by a sunrise beach party

Monday, 1st August, 2022: This is Grand Kadooment Day!Today is when carnival comes to Barbados! The highlight of Crop Over this is when a spectacular daytime street carnival & parade occurs, and also when the Tune-Of-The-Crop which is the Road March Song is judged.
