Stuart Recreation Area is a great spot for hosting events or even just a fun-filled day spent outdoors with the family. We have had many birthday parties here as you can rent out picnic shelters right on Shavers Fork River. The park has many amenities to offer a great day of outdoor activities including a volleyball area, hiking trails, bathroom facilities, and a river for swimming and trout fishing.

Bickle Knob Observation Tower is one of our favorite sightseeing activities to do as a family. It is only a short 5 minute walk from the parking lot and offers amazing views of the mountains during sunrise and sunset. This observation area is only 5 miles away.

Blackwater Falls is a must-see spot for visitors. This park offers many hiking trails and amazing views of the 57 foot waterfalls. The trail leading to the falls is 0.25 miles and is made of mostly wooded stairs. This activity is perfect for all ages and is only 39 miles away.

You can also dine with a view as the restaurant is located at the very top of Kelly Mountain, only 5 minutes away from our Airbnb.

There are two riding options ranging from 8 miles to 22 miles, where you and your group can see some of the area's most beautiful sights while enjoying a meal! During the holiday season, the railroad holds a special "Polar Express" event where you can live the story in real life as you embark on a train ride to The North Pole. This is a must-do activity while staying in Elkins!

People can place caches anywhere around the area and you can try to find them using clues on the mobile app. Some caches have prizes included, which makes it perfect for the kids. Elkins is filled with geocaching and it's an activity we love to do as a family.

We highly recommend taking a ride with The Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad for an unforgettable experience with amazing views! Keep in mind this attraction is very popular and we urge you to book your ride ahead of time to ensure your spot on the train! For the Polar Express event, you must reserve tickets ahead of time as these sell out extremely fast due to its popularity.
