My favorite Breakfast and Brunch Spots

This is my go to brunch spot in this neighborhood. It is locally owned and has some of the best shrimp and grits in town and their signature breakfast pizza is a must try! The bar serves a variety of brunch cocktails (mimosas please!) only about 1 mile away. Perfect for breakfast or brunch! Get there early! There is always a line, even during the week. They also serve lunch and have specials every day. The Impossible Sweet Potato Nachos are are delish! You MUST wear a mask until you are seated.

For all day breakfast and brunch with a touch of Atlanta boozy, check out The Breakfast Boys in College Park. This is another great locally owned spot with a great vibe. I recommend the jerk chicken and sweet potato waffles, Pineapple Upside Down French Toast or Green Eggs and Lamb . There is also a vegan option and plenty of bubbly drinks. Cheers!

This little hole in the wall is no frills, just good old down home cookin made with fresh ingredients and a whole lotta love. I literally eat here at least once a week (French toast and chicken sausage or shrimp and grits) ! It's inexpensive, tasty and fast. TAKE OUT ONLY!!! You can also find Stem's on Grub Hub and Uber Eats. Go online and order ahead even if you are picking it up to go. It's about a mile from the house.

Make a reservation! This is an Atlanta long time favorite in Midtown. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday only. Full bar. Crab cakes and fried green tomatoes are some of the best in town! They are known for their fried chicken too, so I usually get chicken and waffles. Paid parking available in the lot across the street on Crescent or right behind the restaurant. This is in a very walkable area so park your car and check out the rest of midtown if it's a nice day!

Another Midtown favorite. Breakfast and lunch served Tuesday - Friday (closed Monday!!) and super fabulous brunch Saturday and Sunday. This is Southern food (think fried fried and fried again!) with a little extra flair. The portions are big and I always end up with a to go box. The Spicy Chicken Biscuit taste great warmed up later! And of course what is brunch without cocktails? And Joy Cafe has some of the best. Their cocktails have been named in Atlanta's Best Of several times in a row. There is outdoor seating which is perfect for people watching in Midtown. Parking garage located next door!

Neighborhoods

I was fortunate enough to live in Midtown for several years and I miss it because it is truly one of the best areas of Atlanta for a lot of reasons. It is the considered the heart of the city, with a walk score of 87 and some of the best restaurants in all of Atlanta. Not to mention, Midtown is home to Piedmont Park, Music Midtown, The Beltline, The Fox Theater, The High Museum, Woodruff Symphony Hall, the iconic rainbow crossing, the Peachtree Road Race and the historic Pride Parade that goes right down 10th Street! There is plenty of parking or you can Uber and walk the area. Piedmont Park has bikes for rent and scooters are all over Midtown.

Edgewood is just east of Downtown Atlanta and is home of MLK's home Church Ebenezer Baptist and the MLK Memorial. You can take a guided walking tour of the area that includes the original church and the museum. Evenings in Edgewood are lively, as the street is lined with bars and restaurants. Check out my category labeled: ATL Great Eats and Drinks for some recommendations.

This eclectic little enclave is one of Atlanta's newest hot spots with a collection of local distilleries, breweries and access to the West End Beltline, great for walking, running and biking. The historic West End has really come into its own and is quickly becoming the go to spot for outdoor lovers who want to also grab a locally brewed beer after they bike, walk or run on the Beltline!

This is AUTHENTIC paella. I have traveled to Spain and this is the real deal. You won't find many places in America anywhere, that can make paella the real way. Because it is authentic, I recommend ordering as soon as you sit down because it takes about an hour to prepare. And yes it is well worth the wait. While you are waiting enjoy some tapas (small shareable plates) and a glass or pitcher of Sangria! I personally like the white sangria but the red is fantastic too. Another great place for people watching. There is outdoor dining that faces the street. This is in Inman Park and there is always lots of activity, especially during warmer months. Parking is available on the street or adjacent parking garage.

My favorite seafood spot with a terrific Raw Bar, excellent martinis, wonderful wine list and some of the best seafood gumbo in town. The roux is dark, dark brown so that says it all if you know gumbo! The menu changes daily but their lobster roll is always on the menu and I promise it is worth every single calorie (no clue how many but it's so good I am sure I exceed my calorie count in the first few bites!) Open for dinner only and closed on Sunday. Highly recommend reservations. Onsite garage parking available.

This is a new favorite! It has changed a bit but I like it even more. This is a smokehouse with an awesome outdoor garden in the back or you can opt to sit inside in the covered and heated (during colder months) patio. There is also a great little store and bakery in the front where you can purchase wine, loose leaf tea and pastries.

What are the odds that I would move all the way from New Mexico to find a restaurant in Atlanta that is owned and operated by a New Mexico native. For those who may not know, New Mexico, is known as the Land of Enchantment and home of the world's best green chili. Needless to say, Agave is a combination of Southern cooking seasoned with New Mexico charm from the warm southwest accents, including a Kiva fireplace to a great selection of tequila and green chili tossed in to the grits! You will not find a more satisfyingly eclectic meal anywhere in Atlanta. I will say this is a must try if for no other reason than this might be your only chance to have real Hatch, Green Chili that is flown in and mixed with some of their signature dishes.

Local neighborhood bistro in Midtown with a great bar (martinis are excellent!) to sit at if you happen to be a solo traveler. There is a lovely outdoor patio for al fresco dining and indoors is sophisticated yet casual dress is perfectly fine. I love the food here and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Midtown. Some menu favorites: Roasted beet salad, the pork chop and finally the tiramisu is divine! This restaurant REQUIRES a proof of vaccination ( a vaccination card!!!)

Calling all bourbon, gin and vodka lovers! This little gem is serving up locally distilled spirits and craft cocktails with lots of Atlanta love. You can go in and sip or get a tour if you have a little extra time. Now, this certainly isn't Kentucky Bourbon by a long shot, but still, the bourbon is single barrel and aged for 4 years and not bad overall. Worth a taste and definitely a great hangout spot after having dinner at Staple House right next door.

This spot is in the West End (not far from the house). It is very casual. They only serve their bourbon and a few other craft cocktails. Depending on the day, they usually have their signature bourbon, Fiddler, that is actually not too bad. For context, I am a Woodford, Basil Hayden's fan and this suits my pallet fairly well. They also have a Rye, a Double and Single Malt. They don't serve food but you can walk next door and grab a bite from Box Hop and bring it back into the distillery or sit on the covered patio between the two establishments. If you happen to be in a large group you can also make a reservation and they will provide a tasting set up and can also do tours most days but call ahead as their availability can be somewhat sketchy.

Live Music

The vibe here is so Atlanta. Kat's is a staple. From local R&B, and jazz artists, plus spoken word, this is everything the classic Atlanta music scene is known for plus get a great pizza and some cocktails. Kat's is small, well known and always packed so get there early. There is usually a cover depending on when you get there.
