Welcome to Braås park-a nature reserve with both a varied natural environment and an exciting cultural history. Here you can walk through flowery pastures and stately manor avenues, among century old pines and beneath enormous pedunculate oaks. The old decidous trees are home to range of lichens, fungi and insects. Follow hiking trails, pick blueberries , lingonberries and mushrooms 🍄 stop for a magical picknick or bath in a lake.
The land of the manor Brsås gård has been cultivated as fields and meadows for hundreds of years. An ironworks was founded in the middle of 18th century. During the infustrial area, an English park was established with avenues and meandering paths and the number of peculiar buildings such as the ”Hermit Hut” and ”Dragon House”.

Söder och öster om kyrkan ligger de forna slåtterängarna – ett område med en lång odlingshistoria. Kanske bedrevs hackebruk här redan på järnåldern och åtskilliga odlingsrösen har lagts upp. Kartor från 1600-talet visar på ängsbruket. Ängarna hörde till prästgården och var en del av prästens försörjning. Forna tiders markanvändning syns tydligt då man kan urskilja gamla åkrar och odlingsrösen.
Den norra delen av Sjösås äng slås varje år med lie för att bevara den unika floran och här växer bland annat ängsvädd, brudborste, prästkrage, slåttergubbe, jungfrulin och solvända.
I den östra ängen växer flera träd – ihåliga och mycket gamla lindar – som hamlats under lång tid. Här finns också ovanligt grova och höga ekar. I en av ekarna kan en vuxen man utan problem få plats i den ihåliga stammen. Både i hagmarkerna och ängen finns gott om döda träd .

Kronoberg castle ruins are located on the shore of Lake Helgasjön. The castle was originally a bishop’s residence. The rebel Nils Dacke is the person most frequently associate with Kronoberg castle. Dacke’s uprising was defeated and the castle was expanded by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa and his sons, as an important part of the border defences against Denmark.
At this time, Blekinge, Halland and Skåne belonged to Denmark. By the end of the 17th century, these counties had become Swedish, and so the castle was no longer needed to defend the border. Stone was removed from the castle to build houses inside Växjö itself.
Ryttmästaregården café & restaurant are situated next to Kronoberg castle ruins. Take the opportunity to eat good food and enjoy the beautiful setting.
The ruins of Kronoberg castle are located about 8 km north of central Växjö. Parking spaces are available.

The steamboat Thor has its home port adjacent to Kronoberg castle ruins. During the summer, Lake Helgasjön is served by the steamboat Thor, which was built in 1887 at Bergsunds Mekaniska Verkstad in Stockholm. In the same year the steam yacht was built, Sweden’s southernmost lock at Åby was also completed.
Here you are welcome to go through Sweden’s southernmost lock in Åby, or enjoy a boat trip aboard the steamboat Thor while learning more about the boat, the lake and Kronoberg castle ruins. The tours depart from Kronoberg castle ruins.

There are tables here where you can enjoy your picnic lunch against the backdrop of this incredible view. Close by, you'll also find Singoalla's cave, which bears the name of the protagonist in the Swedish author Viktor Rydberg's novel, the Wind is my Lover. The path to the cave is steep and requires strong legs and a good sense of balance. Please note that you enter this area at your own risk. Enjoy your stay outdoors!

HULTSFRED TO MÅLILLA
If you choose to start in Hultsfred, the tour takes you 12 km southwards to Målilla. You pass through a varying landscape with pine forests and a beautiful lake to swim in. By the lake Hesjön you will find a nice spot for some rest where you can eat your picnic, before continuing to Målilla. At Målilla Sanatorium, the end station for the trolleys, you lift your trolley and turn it around to go back to Hultsfred.
CYCLE FROM VIRSERUM
From Virserum you are able to cycle all the way to Åseda, a distance of 29 km, but you choose yourself if you want to cycle the whole distance or only a section. One suggestion is to cycle to Aggatorp - a distance of about 6,5 km. If you start in Virserum, don't miss the station building that has been renovated to remind of the 50s and 60s.
Your trip starts in a beautiful deciduous forest and the track gives you a nice view of the lake Virserumssjön. Make sure to slow down your speed when you get closer to Hjortöström, so that you can have a look at the old mill ruin and its pond. The perhaps most beautiful section of all is when Smalspåret crosses a bank across Lake Hjorten, and you have water on both sides of the track. Along the route there are several nice resting places where you can catch your breath.
ÅSEDA TO TRIABO
Deep forests, lakes and small red houses surround you when you pedal from Åseda towards Triabo. Here you cycle through the typical, idyllic Småland scenery. Halfway, in Hultanäs, you reach the old general store. Here you can revel in flea market bargains, but make sure that they will fit on the trolley on the way back!

By the lake Hesjön you will find a nice spot for some rest where you can eat your picnic, before continuing to Målilla. At Målilla Sanatorium, the end station for the trolleys, you lift your trolley and turn it around to go back to Hultsfred.
CYCLE FROM VIRSERUM
From Virserum you are able to cycle all the way to Åseda, a distance of 29 km, but you choose yourself if you want to cycle the whole distance or only a section. One suggestion is to cycle to Aggatorp - a distance of about 6,5 km. If you start in Virserum, don't miss the station building that has been renovated to remind of the 50s and 60s.
Your trip starts in a beautiful deciduous forest and the track gives you a nice view of the lake Virserumssjön. Make sure to slow down your speed when you get closer to Hjortöström, so that you can have a look at the old mill ruin and its pond. The perhaps most beautiful section of all is when Smalspåret crosses a bank across Lake Hjorten, and you have water on both sides of the track. Along the route there are several nice resting places where you can catch your breath.
ÅSEDA TO TRIABO
Deep forests, lakes and small red houses surround you when you pedal from Åseda towards Triabo. Here you cycle through the typical, idyllic Småland scenery. Halfway, in Hultanäs, you reach the old general store. Here you can revel in flea market bargains, but make sure that they will fit on the trolley on the way back!

Here in Braås is the best activity park in all of Växjö. The area breathes activity under the open sky with a multi-arena for ball sports, courts for padel and tennis, an outdoor gym, an area for group training, an obstacle course with pulse, a motor track for younger people and a fun pump track for activity on wheels. There is a nice mix in the activity park that lasts for many hours.
