DELICIOUS dinner out. Fairly expensive, but REALLY good. I recommend for an adults only evening OR to include only foodie type kids who appreciate the fine food and interesting combinations. Went on Saturday night recently and they had a lovely live band playing too.

Beach & Water Fun
A lovely beach ~15 minute drive from the cabin. There are restrooms right off the parking lot and there are businesses that rent fun water toys OR operate parasailing rides right there

A perfect activity for a special occasion. We've done this a few times and have LOVED it. We went with our kids when they were around 10+ Offers breathtaking views. It is a little pricey for a large group - but super memorable and special too.

We've rented boats + innertubes from Donner Lake Watersports a few times. A super fun way to spend a few hours. The water is chilly - but the tubing so fun the kids did not mind! Donner lake does have a lot of boat traffic - so they only allow boats to go around the lake in a one way loop. A really fun way to spend an afternoon.

Float the Truckee River! This is a fun activity - takes ~1/2 day. We like using this company to make it really easy. They provide the commercial inflated boat AND the transportation back to your car at the end. It is a pretty zen float most of the way - so pack a cooler bag with beer, soda, snacks etc and be prepared for a fun float (note this is NOT whitewater rafting - this is more lounging & swimming most of the time! Limited big rapid parts the times we've gone)

A cute local theater, we've so enjoyed the drive in movies they've been showing in the summer. Bring your car full of blankets and enjoy this thriwback fun! (We took our teens this past summer for their first in their lives drive in! So fun)

Hiking & walking
In the summer, we love riding up the gondola & hiking from the base of the gondola to Sawmill lake. Then we hike the whole way down to the Village. Bring plenty of water & snacks or a picnic to enjoy at the lake

Grocery Stores we like the best
The closest grocery store to our home. It is a 'fancy' Raley's concept store - full of organic and natural items. Reminds me a bit of a Whole Foods. That said, it also has an extensive deli counter, bakers with things like make to order sandwiches and PIZZA! So while it is a little on the pricey side for a grocery store - it is a fun,cheap alternative to a restaurant meal. We like to bring the family and have everyone pick their own item to picnic with.

The less busy of the 2 Safeways about equal distance from the house. While the Kings Beach and Truckee Safeways are about equal distance from the house, we find the Safeway in Kings Beach to be less hectic. Especially on holiday weekends, the Truckee Safeway can be a zoo. So we prefer heading the other way to the Kings Beach Safeway

The prices are generally lower than any of the other grocery stores in town - but their # of items is lower. So if you need a really specific brand / flavor it might not be the place for you. But if you enjoy a great deal and are open to the specific brand or flavor, it's a fun place to shop
