Simon's has been one of favorite restaurant's for a long time. It's a little more expensive but well worth it. Their rock salt prime rib is my favorite.

Gwennies is located in Spenard and is an icon for Alaskans; they serve the largest portions of any resturaunt and have a rustic old school Alaskan atmosphere. Highly recommend for breakfast.

Sightseeing
The only way to truly see Alaska is by airplane. Rust's flying service is one of the best air taxi's located out of Lakehood. They offer a variety of different tours and adventures.

The aviation museum is a great stop to get a crash course on Alaska aviation history. Because Alaska is so large with so few roads, aviation became a way of life and still is for Alaskans.

45 minute drive from Anchorage. You can take a ferry ride to see the glacier and/or hike trails within the park. The drive is also very beautiful along cook inlet. I recommend stopping in Girdwood for lunch or dinner along the way.

Bird creek has a great silver salmon and pink salmon run in the early fall. The only problem is that it can get very crowded when the fish are running so beware of combat fishing rules and etiquette. There are also trails to hike nearby as well.

McHugh Creek offers great hiking trails and views of Cook Inlet. Take your bear spray in the summer as a precaution; there have been occasional bear sightings in the area during the summer months.

Girdwood is only 35 minutes South of Anchorage and is the home of Alyeska ski resort, a world class ski hill that ranges from beginners to expert. Girdwood also has many small shops and restaurants worth checking out.
