Casual bites

Quick service or counter service restaurants- these places are great spots to get food for a picnic!
Casa Azul is my go-to neighborhood spot. I eat there at least once a week. It’s a family run restaurant who is brought their recipes from Mexico. The owner, Alejandra, is the sweetest. In addition to the standards - tacos, quesadillas, burritos, they also have unique specials like birria tacos and torta sandwiches, always with meat and vegan options.

Dune Brothers is a walk-up window that serves incredibly good chowder, fish n chips and other seafood. They’re super passionate about sourcing fish from New England. It’s located right next to the pedestrian bridge so it’s perfect for a picnic in the park across the street or at one of their picnic tables.

Pizza Marvin serves up some of my favorite pizza, offering both great crispy thick crust and thin crust. They have a locally harvested raw bar, seafood appetizers and homemade (really good) canned cocktails. The location has a throwback vibe and the staff is cool and kind. Located on Wickenden St. by lots of other cool shops & restaurants.

DenDen Korean Fried Chicken is one of my favorite spots on Thayer St. (right off Brown’s campus). As their name implies, their fried chicken is delicious - Crunchy, flavorful, and just scrumptious (try the soy garlic sauce!) They also have rice and noodle dishes and small plates like dumplings (another favorite). This is a no tipping restaurant, tip is built into the menu prices.

Most people in Providence would name Tallulah’s the spot for the best tacos. In college, I was here several times per week. Everything is good- but the chicken or shrimp tacos are my favorite. I always order ahead online to avoid the long lines. It’s perfect to pick up for a picnic or to enjoy on their patio with a churro and margarita.

Tony's Colonial is an italian grocery store in the Federal Hill neighborhood - there's another Italian grocery store across the street and another a few doors down. This one is my favorite (though they're all good). Pick up something quick from their deli or a delicious sandwich. This is a great spot to grab food for a picnic as there's lots of variety. It's authentically Italian & family-owned (you'll likely hear the staff arguing with each other haha).

Since 1997, East Side Pockets has been a fixture in the heart of Providence’s busy Thayer Street. They serve consistently great Middle Eastern food. My favorite place for Falafel (absolutely the best around!), gyros, wraps, baklava, salads, hummus, tzatziki with homemade pita chips (also my favorite I've ever had).

Grab a Drink

My favorite bars. You can go to any of these for a stand-out cocktail & great time.
The Eddy is known for their extremely talented and creative bartenders (see if Parker is working- he’s the best). My favorite part of going there is telling them the flavor profile I’m looking for (often something fruity) and getting a delicious and unique drink. Note: The bar is very small so by peak time it’s packed. Come early!

Tiny Bar is an elegant craft cocktail bar in the heart of the revitalized Jewelry District in downtown Providence. This place has a killer patio which feels like you’re in a garden in the middle of a city. They also partner with a local non-profit public arts team to host new murals throughout the year. A fun place to enjoy a craft cocktail inside or outside.

PTX Lounge is a popular neighborhood bar. It has a dive bar feel with an underwater atmosphere like you’re submerged in a submarine or on a ship in the middle of the ocean. There’s a lot of vintage nautical art on the dark, wood-paneled walls, including salty fishermen, ship models, and seagulls. Great cocktail and beer menu.

A first visit to Courtland Club sometimes starts with a bit of mystique. With no signage in sight and a keypad on the front door, Guests wonder what’s on the other side of the entrance and how to get inside in the first place. Just turn the knob and you’ll be welcomed with a comfortable seat, a steamed towel, a refreshing drink and tasty snacks.

Hot Club is the ultimate summer bar. Don’t let the name deceive you- it’s just a normal bar. It’s got a great patio atmosphere. Drinks are nothing special, but the atmosphere is what people return for - enjoying a cold beer while looking over the water. If you’re hungry - walk a block over to grab Fellini’s Pizza, a great post-Hot Club snack.

Coffee Spots ☕️

The best spots to get caffinated.
Starting as Nitro Cart - a cart that would park in spots around Providence serving nitro cold brew coffee- has quickly evolved into a state-wide craze (you'll find Nitro taps at 50+ restaurants throughout the state). Gracie’s is my favorite place to celebrate a special occasion. The ambiance is warm and cozy. The entire staff is incredibly knowledgeable and truly goes the extra mile to make the service special. They have both pre-fixe menus and ala carte. Their bread (baked by sister restaurant- Ellie’s) is incredible & every dish is packed with freshness & tons of flavor.
A local favorite, Nick's on Broadway is run by award-winning chef, Derek Wagner. Known for their fresh ingredients- working with local farms and suppliers. You can see them working on your meal with their open kitchen. Pretty small inside (now also has outdoor seating) so can sometimes be difficult to get a spot (particularly for brunch). Menus are posted daily on their instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nicksonbroadway/

WARA WARA (meaning laugh laugh) is a unique Japanese dining experience, that specializes in cold sake, Japanese and local beer, various tapas, oysters. Recommend trying their ramen.

My favorite Indian restaurant in Providence. The staff is extremely professional and knowledgeable & the location is decorated beautifully. They have a great patio in the summer. For portions are generous- I enjoy getting a handful of dishes to share.
