Tipps für Reisende

Verkehrsmittel

Walking, renting a bike or electric scooter, taxis, tour bus

Walking is the best way to explore Vlora. Most locals under 40 speak English (Albanians are multi-lingual so you will also find Italian and Greek are commonly spoken) and are glad to help you find your way around. You will discover all sorts of delightful places to eat, shop, and explore as you walk around town. Evenings tend to be cooler and most everything stays open until 11 for shopping and 12 for eating. Of course pubs, clubs and coffee bars are open much later.

Sazan Island, Rental Boats, Fishing, Snorkeling, Canoeing...

You can find nearly every kind of adventure in Vlora often at reasonable prices. Just downstairs from our flat is a local tour agency who offers all sorts of opportunities for exploring the beauty of Vlora and the surrounding areas. Some Vlonjats (people from Vlora) swear by getting around by boat and recommend a boat trip to Himare or even Saranda instead of a car trip!

The Jewish Neighborhood, Independence Square

Take a walking trip through Vlora, heading back toward town along Lungomara's promenade. Turn right heading into town and keep walking. You will walk through old town Vlora and make your way to Independence Square (Sheshi Pavarsise). Turn a slight right at Independence Square and you will see the narrow street of the Jewish Neighborhood. Albanians were one of the few European nations who not only welcomed Jews during WW2, they also protected them.
Mit Kindern reisen

Albanians love children

Don't be surprised if people want to say hello, children seem to want to play with your children, or grandmotherly figures want to give advice on dressing your child (or taking off wet clothes). Albanian culture is very communal and taking care of children is one of its most important felt responsibilities.
Verkehrsmittel

Taxis & Tour Buses

Taxis for closer distances (even within 20 km) are fairly affordable though you will want to shop around for the best price. Tour-like buses and tourist destinations are often best priced although you will sacrifice some independence. Driving your own car in Albania is also an option. If you choose to drive your own car (or rental car) please be aware that not all road signs are clear, but obeying these are expected.
