This is the old fashioned pebbly beach where I always swim, with a bit of lunch or coffee afterwards at the thekitchenthorpeness.co.uk. A quieter beach for adults as there's no pier like Southwold. There's a boating lake set in the middle of Stuart Ogilvie's extraordinary dream of a mock Tudor holiday village including the fairy tale House in the Clouds.

If you like birding, or just walking, this is a huge wetlands with cafe, you can do a bit of birding, even join a tour, it's right by the sea so you can also enjoy the beach.

One of the most popular and smarter coastal villages with plenty of boutique shops, art galleries and great restaurants. Many people come from miles to have their fish & chips on the beach. Walk anywhere along this coast and it's invigorating, I often do Sizewell to Aldeburgh, but you can do a shorter one from Aldeburgh to Thorpeness. Or even Sizewell to Southwold. Good tip is to pick low tide as then there's a bit of sand to walk on.

Walk on your doorstep. Turn left out of the Cartshed, pass Ancient bluebell wood that you can walk through, it's small, keep going up lane and you will come to a little bungalow and a big open field. Keep going, cross a little lane into 37 acre Green Burial site that's a lovely wooded walk, popular with dog walkers, although sign up saying dogs on leads people often taken them off their leads when they are away from the actual burial site.
