Pismo State Beach is a 17 mile stretch of beach running through the towns of Pismo Beach, Grover Beach , and Oceano. The actual state park entry is in the town of Grover Beach right off Highway 1 and west Grand Ave. you can't miss the ranger booth. If you want to access the beach by driving right into it with your car, it's $5 for the day pass. 4 wheel drive recommended. In and out privilege allowed for the day if you keep your receipt. But if you want to just walk onto the beach, it's free. That's an entry separate than the ranger booth. Free parking and access is via the shared parking lot of Fin's restaurant. The drive on portion of the beach stretches down into the town of Oceano. Overnight camping (tents and RVs) is allowed but reservations are required. They can only be made online. Plus there are AtV rentals to explore the Sand dunes.

404 Front St Avila Beach, CA 93424 avilabeachpier.com This quaint town covers 1.3 square miles of land and is home to less than 1,000 people. Besides the homes, hotels, and small businesses adjacent to the beach, most of Avila Beach is undeveloped. The beach itself is only about a half a mile long and is protected from northwesterly winds by Point San Luis. This creates a warmer climate than other beaches on the central coast, averaging temperatures in the 70s during summer months. At the beach front, an entire block of restaurants and shops were lined up. The beach itself is smaller and more intimate feeling than a beach like Santa Cruz. It was super cute nonetheless and the pier was a short walk from the parking lot.
