Green Gables is the setting for the beloved 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables, the global sensation about a young orphan living in an idyllic Prince Edward Island village. The original green-gabled farmhouse, which inspired author Lucy Maud Montgomery more than a century ago, has been carefully restored to reflect the period, right down to the furnishings in the rooms.
Visitors to the National Historic site can tour the house, where guides are on hand to answer questions, and even meet Anne herself, portrayed by an actress wearing red braids. Outside, trails like the book’s legendary Lover’s Lane lead into the surrounding woodlands.
