On the Farm

Beaulieu offers a host of outdoor activities and beautiful views. Please see below and contact us at beaulieu1888@gmail.com to coordinate excursions during your stay on the farm.
Hiking: Beaulieu sits on 690 acres of beautiful rolling hills and pastures. For a fee, let us design and guide you through a custom hike that meets your needs - shorter loops to see the horses or several hour hikes through miles of woodland and pastures are all options on our farm that rivals the size of New York City's Central Park. Please inquire via e-mail at beaulieu1888@gmail.com and send preferred hiking times if you’re interested. More notice than less is preferred so that we can coordinate a guide.

Tubing / Kayaking: Beaulieu offers over two miles of winding and private river through the 690 acre property. For a fee, let us help you put in and take out tubes or kayaks at the best access points. Depending on water levels, this can be a 2-5 hour float and offers beautiful views, wildlife, and swimming holes throughout. If interested, please send an email inquiry to beaulieu1888@gmail.com.

Clay shooting: Beaulieu offers guided skeet shooting in our back pastures ($100 per person for 50 clays with a two person minimum). Dress appropriately (wear closed toe shoes, preferably boots, that you don’t mind if they get muddy, bring bottled water, camera/phone, a hat, sunglasses, etc. if a sunny day, raincoat if rainy and wear layers as weather can change on a dime.) Please give us a week’s notice by sending an email inquiry to beaulieu1888@gmail.com and send preferred hiking times if you’re interested in this, so we can coordinate a guide for you.

If interested, please send an email inquiry to beaulieu1888@gmail.com.

Hiking Off the Farm

If you're looking for a low key hike in Charlottesville, check out the Jefferson Trail. It's probably only a mile or two each way and gets you some decent views of the city and surrounding areas at the top. Monticello is also right there which is another Charlottesville site not to be missed. Very close by is also Carter's Mountain which has even better views and an apple orchard on top. Don’t miss the apple cider donuts!

If it’s a hot day, Sugar Hollow, also known as Blue Hole, is another good summer day hike to check. It's got a fun swimming hole (bring sandals and a swimsuit) at the end of the trail and is only about 20 minutes west of Charlottesville.

Also west near Crozet is a hike called Buck’s Elbow Mountain. There was a plane crash on Buck’s Mountain in the 60's so if you do your research and take the right trails and venture a little off trail you can find the remains of the plane.

Easily our favorite hike in Central Virginia. Will take up a good chunk of the day and requires quite a bit of exertion, especially near the top where you get to boulder for roughly a mile to the summit.

Hot air ballooning: You will often find when you’re outside on a beautiful day in Charlottesville that you look up and find a pack of large, colorful hot air balloons floating over you. These trips can be easily set up through Boars Head Inn (http://www.2comefly.com/reservations-rates/) and a handful of other local trip providers.

One of the local favorite summertime pastimes is to head down to Scottsville (about a 45 minute drive) and to hop on the river in a black inner tube with a cooler of beer. Friends tie up and float a few miles down the river stopping at beaches and jumping rocks along the way. Just be sure to plan the sober driver.
