Torrevieja is situated on the Costa Blanca, approximately 40 minutes south of Alicante airport. It isn’t a resort in the package holiday sense, there are only a few hotels and the area is much loved by the Spanish who flock here during the summer months for their holidays. The town is surrounded by excellent urbanisations, all with pools and beautiful gardens and the whole area enjoys fabulous beaches with fine sand and crystal clear waters. Thousands of people from the north of Spain and northern Europe have set up home permanently in the town. The local people, are friendly and welcome both national and international tourism. English is widely spoken.

Drinks & Nightlife

What most young people tend to do after dinner is have a few drinks in the local pubs and bars and then hit the nightclubs and dance until dawn. The pub and bars of Cabo Roig offer a good array of evening entertainment including fish and chip evenings, curry evenings, bingo nights, quiz nights and of course the increasingly popular Karaoke Nights. Typically the discos in Cabo Roig open late, start to get busy around midnight, don’t bother coming before as the clubs are dead and dress your best as the locals do, and are often open well after three in the morning. Your entrance fee usually includes a free drink so be sure to hang onto your ticket.

The villages of San Pedro del Pinatar and Lo Pagan are situated on the north shore of the Mar Menor and have gradually merged together to become one big town. It is easy to spend an action packed day out here. San Pedro has a really informative visitors centre where you can learn all about the regional park that is made up of the sand dunes and salt marshes. A stop at the marina is a must before visiting the mud baths at nearby Lo Pagan. The mud baths are free to use, which is great news if you have a large family to keep occupied. Everyone can try the mud baths, but only the truly hardy indulge during the winter months. Simply walk down the steps, cover yourself with the therapeutic mud,

Mil Palmeras is part of Pilar de la Horadada. It has a sandy beach and a promenade which, with a few small deviations, runs the length of the beach and takes you north to Dehesa de Campoamor or south to Torre de la Horadada. The village has a little square and a great 'restaurant alley' which is packed with international restaurants and the Lo Monte Natural Park which is a special reserve for birds.

Cartagena, a gorgeous fishing village on Colombia's Caribbean coast, has excellent beaches, a historic old town (that's entirely walkable) and beautiful colonial architecture. It's also one of the safest places in the country, so it's no wonder it's a popular port of call for cruise ships. Need a break from exploring the cobblestone streets? Stop at an outdoor cafe for excellent pastries and people-watching.
